Rewarding Careers

Your resume is used to identify matches between current job openings,
and any occurring in the next six months. We are interested in your job
experiences, skills and career interests. If a job match is identified, you
will be contacted by an Our Country Parlor recruiting team member.

I think sometimes we forget where our residents have been and what they have accomplished and endured in their lives. We can be sure that we will never understand their struggles and triumphs. But you must understand that each day now is both a struggle and a triumph. The things we take for granted, walking, talking, remembering, the ability to do for ourselves and having feelings, we must remember these people once did all these things by themselves, and its not because they don’t want to remember or say the right words. They do.

We are here to make them comfortable and help them here on earth until they go. We hope that we are the people that will comfort them in their last days. We are the people that show them kindness, joy, comfort, happiness, and compassion. We are also the people who can upset them, make them feel awful, and belittle them. Our residents are mothers, fathers, sisters, aunts, cousins, widowed, brothers, and survivors. This job is hard. Hard emotionally and mentally.

What you take from this job is up to you.  If you work here because of the pay, I am truly sorry you aren't paid more. Caring for others is a job that is priceless.  I could never afford to pay you what you are worth. What I think you take from here when you leave is a sense that the little of yourself you give to an old person is the best part of you. The strongest of wills to make someone feel comfortable. You give them a sense of belonging and family.  And I say you because its not just me and my family, its all of us that give to them.

Sometimes we need a reminder that though they are unable to put into words the appreciation they feel in your comforting words and
compassionate touch, they are truly happy to have a place where they are not just a warm body, they are special people.

Though some here are very sick, remember that dying is all a part of living.  It is a transition from one life form to another.  And though they are not here physically, they are still here because all matter will take a different physical form.Be compassionate now and hope someone will be as compassionate to you in your golden days. Or show compassion and
pass the kindness on to your children.  They will follow suit. Respect all the residents because our personalities are what make these people happy.

They also know when you don’t care for them and that you are only here for money. Make their day, say something nice, start a conversation, tell them about your day.  They may even have advice.

Remember they have seen it all. Give them a chance to educate you.
